CELEBRATORY & COMMEMORATIVE TREES IN WELLINGTON PARK / DURNSFORD REC.
Before the end of November this much loved recreational ground will have an additional 26 young trees, ten from Merton Council, the other 16 having been sponsored by local residents. A group of parents got together and brought trees to celebrate the birth of their young children. On hearing of this initiative other residents asked to be involved and sponsored a Family tree or a tree in memory of a loved one.
For the parents of young children one main aim was to provide shade for the children's playground and a number of trees destined for ( in and around ) this area will indeed one day provide much needed shade.
Several surplus and rescued shrubs & plants have been given to the park. The Council will be putting in a number of new shrub roses in the rosebud alongside Wellington Road and once these new shrub roses are in place mixed spring bulbs will be added.
Local residents wishing to sponsor a bush, tree or a shrub-rose for next year's planting season ( Autumn 1988 ) should contract the WPRA's Green Committee on 0181-946-1368. Also do please let us know if you have any surplus shrubs and unwanted plants or a small tree which might be suitable for this park or Kenilworth Green
