AGM Report

Paresh Modasia, Chairman, opened the meeting by welcoming residents and committee members.

This has been a very active year, with one of the highlights being the very successful Community Fair held in the grounds of The Woodman pub. This was a joint venture with the pub. The proceeds from the event being divided between Wimbledon Park First School and Haslemere House, a small sum being retained towards next year's fair. It is hoped that this would now become an annual event.

The Christmas Lights had again been a great success.

The activities of the sub-committees were as follows.

Planning. This has been a quiet year for planning matters. Our objections to increased use of the Citroen garage on Durnsford Road had been rejected as the proposals met EEC Guidelines. An application for a garage on Ryfold Road was acceptable to the committee as it was in keeping with other buildings in the area. The proposed changes to the use of the pavilion in Durnsford Road Recreation ground had caused some dispute, but it was now confirmed that the proposed D2 use would be scaled down considerably.

Social Committee. This new group has a very successful first year. There have been a number of social events throughout the year with more planned. A Cheese and Wine Party was held for local businesses, a tea party was held for pensioners and a day trip was organised to France. Such was the success of these events that they would all be repeated later this year. A Barn Dance was also being planned before Christmas. The Committee would welcome proposals from residents for social events.

Traffic. The new traffic calming measures have been discussed at length. In general, local residents had supported these measures. The consultation process by Merton Council was however felt to have been poor. There had been some discussion about residents parking. At this time it is not being proposed for this area, although it was definitely a possibility for the future.

Green Committee. This is one of the Associations strongest and most active sub-committee's. A successful bid has been made for Heritage Lottery funding at Wimbledon Park to survey and cost improvements. Extensive repairs are planned for the railway embankment. Durnsford Road Recreation ground has been upgraded and been extensively replanted under the watchful eyes of Kiki Allerman. The Front garden competition was a great success.
