Whilst traipsing down Stroud Road last night
A box I failed to see
I tripped and stumbled, down I fell,
Upon my poor old knee.
I cogitated as I lay
Upon the pavement cold
" Why don't people leave their trash
In the place they've been told?"
The Merton refuse engineers
Are really very good
They'll pick up rubbish every day
But don't like mopping blood
Tied up securely in it's sacks
And paid for through the rates
Your rubbish will be picked up
From just inside your gates
A tale of woe I elucidated
To you the other day
But wait - " Why did this come to pass? "
I think I hear you say
Well..................

Returning home I parked the car
In the only vacant slot
I pulled the catch to essay forth
But what a shock I got
Hid in the dark, beside the curb
The bags and boxes lay
Corrugated card, black plastic shrouds
Were there to block my way
Piled up in serried ranks
They sought to stop my door
There was no way they'd let me get
My foot upon the floor
But I am made of sterner stuff
And put up quite a fight
With strength and steel I forced my way
Right through the quarter-light
The tremendous effort I had made
Had quite exhausted me
My vision was quite blurred and so
A box I failed to see...................
A Nonie-Mouse
