Wimbledon Park Library
The summer has flown and already our thoughts are turning towards Christmas. But first here at Wimbledon Park library we would like to take the opportunity to review what has undoubtedly been a busy and productive summer.
Our "summer reading" scheme was the best ever, with 145 children participating - 27 more than last year.
We held two children's craft sessions, one at Christ the King hall and the other at St Luke's hall. They were both well attended and enjoyed by the children as well as the staff. We would like to thank both churches for the use of their halls and in particular Anne Finley for her continued help and support.
Our annual book sale raised an amazing £200. This was particularly impressive considering that the sale was held outside the library on a cold, damp, September day.
With the mention that Christmas is approaching, please don't forget that we have a good supply of gifts which have Wimbledon Park and the surrounding area very much at heart. William Morris Stationery, New local history books - Pubs of Wimbledon Village, Railways of Merton, A History of Lord Nelson's Merton Place, A Wimbledon Past by Richard Millward and of course Bernard Rondeau's wonderful book, Wimbledon Park, from private park to residential suburb.
The calendar this year, priced at only £2.50, has a new format and includes a picture of the Woodman Public House. Please do come and select that special gift with a local theme.
Best wishes for Christmas and New Year from the staff, with thanks for your continued support.
