From Councillor Joyce Paton

Just a reminder, as if you need it, that you'll be consulted, probably in the New Year, about your views on residents' parking. Do. please, all reply and encourage your neighbours to do so also. On average when we consult on traffic matters, we get only a 30% response. However, most people in the Wimbledon Park area care about their environment and are very community-minded, so give us a surprise with a high response.

An update on paper recycling - Merton Council collects waste paper for recycling and this benefits the environment as the paper doesn't end up in a hole in the ground. We used to be able to sell the paper on to a recycling plant, so this was economically viable. Now however, since everybody is doing it, the bottom has dropped out of the market and we are having to pay operators to take it away. We are determined to continue with this service and officers are looking at ways of dealing with the situation. Look out for more news in the December issue of the Merton Messenger.

Do you all know about the Durnsford councillors' surgeries in Wimbledon Park Hall at 11 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month? If residents want to contact us they usually write a letter, telephone or grab us when they see us in the street. So the surgery is falling into disuse and very often one of us just sits there reading the newspaper. Even if you don't have any complaints or compliments, please drop in to say hello and make our day.

It won't be long now before the festive lights are up - another example of the wonderful community spirit around here. Hope to see you on the 28th, but if I don't I'd like to wish you all a happy holiday season.

              Joyce
