Crime Figures Summary May to June
The level of burglaries is down, with one occurring in Alverstone Avenue where over night the unseen suspect somehow gained access to the rear of the houses. The then walked into the house through an unlocked back door & made off with a lap top computer which was in the kitchen. The other burglary was in Ryfold Road, where the unseen suspect entered the rear of the house via insecure patio doors and a baby changing bag & contents were stolen!
The vehicle crime has dropped significantly. The particular problem in the grid of roads between Melrose Avenue & Durnsford Road tailed off in May with 8 vehicle crimes in this area. However the only vehicle crime in June was a failed attempt to take a car in The Crescent. Out of the 8 vehicle crimes in May, 5 were to VW Golfs! The vehicle crime in total relates to 4 thefts of car stereos, 1 theft of photographic equipment (left in the boot), 1 criminal damage in an attempt to get into a car, but alarm activated & 1 unauthorised taking of a car. Please ensure that if you have removable stereos or fronts to the stereos, remove them overnight & do not leave valuables in your cars.
The other crime of note, on 13/05/1999 at 1900 hrs in Ashen Grove. A young lady was robbed by a white male, approx. 14 yrs old 5'03" tall of thin build with short dark brown hair, wearing a blue hooded top(with a white logo on the front), blue jeans & white trainers. He attacked her from behind pulling her shoulder bag which she held on to & was subsequently dragged along the floor by the suspect until she let go. He took her mobile phone from the bag & discarded the rest of the property as he ran off. Please call if you have any further information regarding this or other crimes. There were two crimes of racial harassment, one in Revelstoke Road & one in Durnsford Road, where the victims were subject to racist abuse.
The new School crossing supervisor in Durnsford Road has been experiencing abuse from some ignorant drivers, with one motorist throwing a bar of chocolate at her! In Ryfold Road a schoolboy was intimidated by a group of youths, asking for cash. He gave them 40 pence & they ran off. A similar incident happened in Arthur Road where three black teenage girls intimidated two other teenage girls into handing over £1. In Braemar Avenue a tree was damaged by suspects unknown swinging from a branch until it fell off, apparently not the first time trees have been damaged in this road recently. The remaining crime relates to three separate cases of threatening phone calls, criminal damage to a shed in Stuart Road where the suspects were possibly disturbed prior to taking a bike. Finally, garden furniture was taken from The Woodman Public House & some potted plants were taken from a window sill in Havana Road.
