MERTON LIBRARY FORUM has:-
1) Had meetings with Councillors and written further letters.
2) Provided figures which show there are NO SAVINGS to be made from this manoeuvre (letter, Wimbledon Guardian November 4th 1999)
3) Arranged a meeting with Vivien Guy, Chair, Leisure and Library Services Committee.
WHAT NEXT?
Throughout this year the Leisure and Library Committee has obdurately refused to listen to us and has discounted our campaign. We hope the meeting with Vivien Guy will leave the door open and we can engage in proper debate.
Our small library is a greatly valued civic amenity. Its loss would be a heavy blow against our sense of community, our "urban village".
We thank all those private individuals who joined in the campaign, writing their letters and going to council meetings.
