From the Editors.
Elsewhere in the Newsletter you'll find a short wish list compiled from a survey of some Residents. There are some, albeit small, grumbles, and many constructive ideas. Ceri and I spoke to people who obviously enjoy living here and who contribute in many ways to keeping this a thriving community. For instance, there are ever more finalists in the Front Garden Competition and standards all-round continue to rise. The response to the threatened library closure was concerted, imaginative and widespread., even if the whole-hearted wish to preserve this crucial amenity may be ignored.
If you are new to Wimbledon Park ( as is likely, given the vigorous increase in house sales recently ) you may wonder how you can become involved. Perhaps you'd like to join the committee; if so please contact Pat Gomez, our Chairman. Maybe you can volunteer a few hours a year ( honestly ). We can certainly find something useful for you to do. An obvious way to support local businesses is to shop locally. ( See the unsolicited letter on page 23 from a more than satisfied customer. ) This ensures that we can keep our excellent range of businesses & services. At the very least, you can join Wimbledon Park Residents' Association by completing the application form on page 17. Membership is continuing to rise. If you've not been canvassed recently, fret not, as someone from the committee will be calling on you soon.
Whether a member or not, you will receive a free copy of this newsletter. Its purpose is two-fold: to keep you up-to-date with the work of the Committee and to give you a local channel for your own views. Please contact us whenever you wish.
My own Millennium wish for Wimbledon Park is that we remain a community of lively individuals and not a mere dormitory for those who commute to and from here but whose interests lie elsewhere. Given the diversity of people and activities here, I've every reason to remain optimistic.
Compliments of the season.
