It Pays to Advertise

Some years ago, a major High Street chain store making huge annual profits decided to stop advertising. They were a household name, they reasoned, so no further publicity was needed. Of course, profits dropped at once and they were forced to begin advertising again and at a greatly increased budget to make up for their lost year.

Even in our community, it pays to keep in the public eye, as our regular advertisers realise.

The Newsletter advertising policy, agreed by the committee, is to accept, in the first instance, advertisements only from local businesses. If someone outside Wimbledon Park wishes to promote a business not found locally, then we accept.

Our advertising revenue funds the printing of each issue. All residents, whether members or not, receive each issue, so that details of activities, plans, commitments, ideas, services, are spread to the widest possible audience.

Over the years, we have regularly reviewed the need for and the nature of the newsletter. The committee must communicate. The notice boards are a help, but not enough. On one occasion, we experimented with a 4 side A4 Broadsheet. This went out during the summer holidays, contained no advertising and, as we have never repeated this, you can guess what we felt about the attempt.

So, it looks as though the current format will remain, always assuming that we can find a new Editor and continue to be so generously supported by our various local enterprises.

New advertisers may contact any committee member. Our costs are reasonable and have remained unchanged for over four years.
