Wimbledon Park Residents' Association
Annual Front Garden Competition
Summer 2001

On 29th July, the final judges - Cécile Bridgens and Iain and Christine Simpson - set out to visit/photograph all the 28 short listed gardens compiled by a team of 22 judges in 11 areas .   The results were unanimous and clear winners were:

Overall Winner of the John Uden Cup ("Judges' favourite")
95 Kenilworth Avenue

This stylish white garden design is contained within immaculately bricked borders, which combine well with the architecture of the house.  Although the site is not particularly sunny, the plants are well selected to bloom within this very small area.

Best Summer Garden : 64 Normanton Avenue

The sophisticated planting gives a colourful display which is very well maintained.

Best Container Garden : 26 Wellington Road

The planters were overflowing with a colourful mixture of blooms and foliage.

Best All Season Garden : 1 Brooklands Avenue

The garden presents an interesting variety of plants for all seasons arranged carefully and kept tidy by a lot of hard work.

Best Street : The Crescent

The street had the greatest number of nominations, though no individual winner.  The small gardens are generally well-maintained, tidy and full of flowers.  This gives the street a very pleasant and colourful aspect.
