Editorial

When I began editing the Newsletter five years ago, the Committee met to discuss its format and the number of issues per year. All wanted to keep the status quo, mindful that this is the main channel of communication for W.P.R.A. This was helped by our library, which kept current editions along with a folder of minutes going back several years. The scandalous closure of our library has cut off residents from such ready access

The committee has, of course, acted to extend contact. We regularly update our notice boards and our own, now well established web site. Over time more people may read the newsletter via our web site and if this happens we may be able to reduce the number of printed copies distributed. However this is likely to be a long way off. Those involved in producing it realise that we are fully indebted to our advertisers. At a time when the commercial world is under great and increasing financial pressure such support and loyalty are much appreciated.

Our current format does make considerable demands on all those involved. In the New Year we will be reviewing the current format of the newsletter, to determine ways in which we can put less pressure on our editors, sponsors and contributors.

Any suggestions from members or non-members will be gratefully received. Perhaps you would like to be present at the first committee meeting of the New Year, when all this will be discussed.

In the meantime Season's Greetings.

Wine Tasting & Lunch.

On 26th September, Veronica Sarkhel the indefatigable proprietor of "Dalchini", Arthur Road, organised a wine-tasting & three course lunch for Residents. We sampled three champagnes and three sparkling wines, ably tutored by Veronica's wine merchant. Our appetites were sharpened for the excellent and varied buffet meal that followed, well lubricated by further forays into Veronica's extensive wine list.

Profits were generously donated to W.P.R.A. We thank all concerned for the trouble that they took to make this a social and financial success. Further such events are planned for the New Year. These will be well publicised and all Residents and their friends will be welcome.
