Due to an accumulation, over a period, of unpaid advertising invoices, the total of which amounted to considerably more than the cost of printing one edition. The committee took a decision in the summer that the association could not and should not afford to fund a newsletter until this situation had improved. I am glad to say that, since we made that decision, the vast majority of the outstanding amounts have been collected and we are now back in business. We have revised some of our working methods to ensure the same problem does not recur and we are asking our advertisers to pay for the advertising at the time the newsletter is compiled - which is normal practice in the commercial world. This will also sharply reduce the workload of our dedicated Treasurer, whose excellent services we wish to retain. Street Representatives
A vital part of our function as an association is being in touch with residents in the community and one of the most important links is our system of Street reps. On page 36 you will find a list of the current street reps and will see that a number of streets do not have one. We would like to remedy this if we can, particularly on the bigger streets where we would like to see more than one to help spread the load. The more people there are the easier the tasks become. The basic function of a street rep is to be the point of contact for the Association in that street; to help deliver newsletters or sometimes leaflets and generally to represent the interests of the residents and act as a conduit for information. It is not a particularly onerous task or a major commitment in time but nevertheless it is a vitally important job. Would you like to be a rep for your street? If you would, please contact me to talk about it. My tel. no & e-mail address are on the inside back page.
Best wishes for a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New year. Iain Simpson
