Wimbledon Park Area - Residents' Parking Scheme

Over the past few months volunteers have carried out a survey in the roads immediately surrounding Wimbledon Park station to establish the support for a residents parking scheme. These roads are; The Crescent, Crescent Gardens, Melrose Avenue (up to Ryfold Road), Ryfold Road, Farquhar Road and Strathmore Road. A high percentage of residents support a scheme, the minimum being 70% and the maximum 93%. Many residents, particularly those with young children are desperate to rid the area of the main problem, the commuter. As more areas become Controlled Parking Zones, Wimbledon Park will bear the brunt and become even more of a parking lot for the underground station. Already cars are being driven round and round searching for a space and this includes residents cars. This causes much frustration and pollutes the area.
Below are a selection of the questions raised by residents regarding parking schemes and answers given by Merton Council.

Merton Council - Useful Questions and Answers on Permit Parking

I understand the number of permits is limited.
No, each resident who has a car and a valid driving licence is entitled to a permit.

Once the scheme is implemented the costs of permits will be raised each year.
Permit charges in Merton have NOT increased since 1995. A resident permit ( £27.50 pa) costs less then the average tank of petrol.

I have a company/lease car or I change my car regularly! Do I qualify for a permit?
Yes. You have to have a letter of authority from your employer If you change your car regularly you can apply for an address permit.

I don't own a car but have special needs e.g. Daily visits from home helps/carers. How will they be able to park to visit me?
Most cases are entitled to a free Address/Carer permit which you lend to visitors. The Council considers each case individually. Disabled permits are free of charge.
