Dear Editor,
Once again, Merton Council has ridden roughshod over Wimbledon Park residents. Without any pretence at consultation, they have squandered public funds on needless kerb widening in Arthur Road.
The existing pavements were wide enough. The consequences are downright dangerous. Parking spaces have been lost, yet another threat to local businesses. The loading bay outside Jay's News comes at the worst and most hazardous point, where the road narrows. The new turn into Home Park Road is sharper and more perilous.
If they took the trouble to research, they'd see that the money should have been spent on repairing the pavements, particularly in Melrose Avenue, where there are hardly any two paving stones in alignment.
The Council may claim that their wasteful and unnecessary measures will promote traffic calming. In this resident and, I suspect in the majority, it has provoked road rage.
