period of six months after implementation for fine tuning of the scheme. If there was a desire to change any aspect of the scheme the most effective way was to put together a petition, showing substantial support for the proposed changes.
Concern was expressed about the knock on effect that was inevitable into areas not included in the scheme. It was generally acknowledged that these schemes are not a total solution to all problems associated with traffic and parking. Experience had shown so far that previously implemented schemes had been successful and in no cases had residents asked for a scheme to be removed after introduction.
Several shopkeepers were worried about the potential loss of trade. Opinions as to how much of their trade was from parking commuters seemed to differ considerably. However Mr Turner did emphasise that from their own experience the flexibility of parking arrangements both in the shopping parade, particularly with the twenty minute free parking idea, and the considerable number of meters in the area immediately surrounding should encourage more people to frequent the parade.
Concern was expressed about the seeming lack of proper control and consistency applied to the white lines introduced where residents had created an off road parking bay. Mr Turner's reply seemed to indicate that there was some inconsistency and that this matter needed further investigation.
The Council were doing a check of all disabled bays to ensure that they were all still required.
The cost of permits was being raised to £32.50 for the first permit and the second, if required, would cost £50.00.
Traffic Orders would be published within a month.
Implementation of the scheme takes approximately three weeks.
