Chairman's opening remarks.

The chairman explained that the W.P.R.A  committee cannot have a collective opinion, but exists to report, channel and provide a forum for residents' views.  A particular local problem is that people residing elsewhere use Wimbledon Park streets as free all day parking when they commute to work. This situation has been exacerbated by the policies of neighbouring boroughs. So far, two groups (see below) have submitted petitions to Merton Street Management Committee which has begun the lengthy process of consultation and discussion.

Statement from Iain Simpson

Iain Simpson represented the Wimbledon Park Parking Action Group. This group met recently; 60 people had attended,  unanimously favouring some form of controlled parking. His group had canvassed 505 houses, 65% of whom  opted for a controlled parking scheme.

This group aims to

  1. Prevent Commuter Parking

  2. To work with Residents' Groups & the Council to achieve a Controlled Parking Scheme

Report From Jane Scoon

Jane Scoon had canvassed local views via a questionnaire. Of the 138 replies, 82% agreed that there should be a zone for controlled parking to include Melrose Avenue, Ryfold Road, Strathmore Road & Court, Bentley Close, Arthur Road, Durnsford Road.
