From the Editor
Parking - or the lack of it - has dominated the local agenda over the last few months. Although attention has been focussed on this, the various committee members have been working on a wide range of other issues, as this edition will show you. This has been a busy period for our ever vigilant Green Committee, as they judge the front garden competition. I think that their task gets harder every year, as residents make increasing efforts to give their homes an attractive frontage.
While appearances have improved, driving particularly along Arthur Road, seems to have deteriorated. Inconsiderate or illegal parking is more common : it's almost obligatory now for cars and delivery vans to be found on the bridge by the Tube Station, thus limiting the view of those driving down Arthur Road. Those pedestrians naively believing in the sanctuary of the zebra crossing are often forced to run to avoid contact with oncoming cars from either direction.
Yet despite the problems of the internal combustion engine, Wimbledon Park remains a pleasant and civilised area whose residents are concerned to keep it so.
Finally a warm thank you to the many local businesses which continue to offer support. This they show by donations to local events, in putting up posters to publicise them and in placing their own adverts in the Newsletter. This is funded entirely by advertising revenue. Without this, there would be no magazine and only limited communication between residents & committee. Refusals are rare; co-operation is the norm.
