From the Chairman
After six years' service on the Committee, the last two as Chairman, I shall be standing down at the next A.G.M.
The past two years have been very busy. We have had to address difficult issues, such as the closure of the library and the introduction of controlled zone parking. A growing concern is the continuing loss of amenities, such as the banks and the appearance of empty shops in Arthur Road. Public meetings were held to debate all these issues. In July we hosted a meeting for the Wimbledon Civic Forum, which is reported on pages 26 & 27 of this issue. Many ideas were put forward as to how our environment could be improved.
On a lighter note, we had a very successful Quiz Night in the early summer and a Millennium exhibition on Wimbledon Park, Past, Present and Future, plus a very popular bat watch. My thanks go to Ken Ball for the time and energy he invested in this. Thanks go also to Liz Baker who is relinquishing her role as Editor of this Newsletter. Kiki Allerman and Jill Farmer masterminded the Front Garden Competition, now in its 10th year, while the two Georges (Farmer and Gomez) have ensured we are solvent by their subscription collecting. All members of the committee have contributed in so many ways.
The task now is to convert enthusiasm into action.
While the Committee will continue its work for Wimbledon Park there can be no progress without the active participation of Residents. Come along to the A.G.M. and see what you can do.
